  • Garry Masterson Pastor

    Garry graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and was an Art teacher and Tennis coach for several years before he answered God's call to ministry in the United Methodist Church. He married Cindy in 1977. They both attended Perkins School of Theology where Garry received a Masters of Divinity and Cindy received a Masters of Theological Education with a concentration on Religious Education. They are happily married and have two sons who are married and live in Bryan-College Station. They have four grandchildren. Garry has been blessed to serve numerous United Methodist Churches as pastor and is excited about being here in Dayton. 

  • Brenda Henscey

    Brenda is a longtime member of this church and is the Administrative Assistant to the Pastor. She is an excellent administrator, working closely with the staff and congregation in order to fulfill the mission of the church of making disciples and serving God best by serving others first.

  • Bethany Brown Children & Youth Director

    Born in North Carolina and Raised in South Carolina, I recently graduated college in May of this year with a B.S. in Human Services from the University of South Carolina Beaufort. During my time in high school and college I was honored to be able to work on the leadership team for the youth ministry at my church in SC. I knew God was calling me to something more so embarked on an adventure to Jasper, TX this summer for an internship in Youth Ministry at FUMC Jasper. This internship led me to working with UM ARMY, Summit and camp at Lakeview. Now, I'm excited for my next adventure coming to Dayton and serving God with y'all!



  • Dee Merrill  Nursery Coordinator

    Dee moved to Dayton, TX in August 2003. She started in the church nursery in September 2004. Then she started as Building Supervisor in June 2008. She has worked one UM ARMY and several Big House missions through her years in Dayton. She has attended summer camp every year since 2005. She married Scott Merrill in June 2014 and has one daughter, Crystal Jackson, who is 16 years old. 


  • Jessica Johnson

    Jessica was born and raised in Dayton and is a life-long member of the church. She has held various volunteer church positions throughout the years. Jessica helps out as she is needed whether it is to play the piano, take her turn at the organ, and/or work with the children's ministry. Both Jessica and her husband John are educators and have three grown children (Sam, Dorothy Jo and BJ). They are also proud grandparents of three precious grandchildren (Mason Milo, Georgia Mae, and Ella Fay).

  • LAURA D'CAMP

    Laura DCamp earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Sam Houston State University, and has taught elementary music since 2000, currently in Liberty ISD. Singing soprano in the FUMC Chancel Choir since 2006, Laura is excited to take on the role of director. One of her main goals is to grow the music ministry of Dayton UMC by uniting children, youth, and adults of all ages in singing praise to God.  

  • Margaret Black

    Margaret serves as church staff, using her musical skills on the organ to glorify God. She plans the music for our Sunday worship and works closely with our Choir Director Laura D'Camp. She also teaches a Wednesday night Bible Study here at the church.  Margaret has several degrees, one in business and one in theology. She taught at San Jacinto Junior College for years.

  • John Vance

    John holds a Bachelor of Music (all level) Degree from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.  For 34 years, he taught music to students who attended the Liberty I.S.D.  For the past 27 years, he has been serving the First United Methodist Church as its Pianist and Handbell Choir Director.

  • Margaret Land

    Margarett moved to Dayton, Texas in 1998 with her two children, Bri and Elizabeth Land, and her late husband, Larry. Her home is currently ruled by three dogs who think they're people.

    Margarett has felt called by God to work with children since she was a teen living in Oregon with her Mom.She returned to Texas in 1984. After many twists and turns in her life, she came to First United Methodist Church in 2014 to work in the nursery: handing out the occasional treat, helping kids brave the two-foot slide, and teaching mini-lessons for mini-people (mostly with awesome coloring sheets). She truly believes children are God's gift.

  • Gary Wirick

    Working as a volunteer staff, Gary monitors the sound system and does a great job every Sunday and when the church needs his expertise.
